Samia Haseeb Khan. Lets Talk Beyond the Pink Ribbon
サミアハシーブカーン ピンクリボンを超えて話しましょう
Cancer affects people worldwide across all barriers of race, gender or social classes. In females, breast cancer is prevalent with high mortality. I would like to focus this discussion on the basics of breast cancer from diagnostics to cure in a nutshell. Secondly, I would like to focus on holistic and emotional support for both the patients and individuals around them i.e. their caregivers, friends & family.
Samia has lived in Kansai for over a decade. She has taught both university and school students. She currently works as an Assistant Professor in Maizuru. She has a dual Master ’s degree in biotechnology and bioinformatics. She enjoys Iaido, poetry, painting and is a fun loving free spirit.
SATURDAY MORNING - 10:30 to 11:30
Joanna Hosoya: Empowering Reflection: A workshop exploring the experiences of caring for ageing parents, including those who live in another country.
Please join us in acknowledging and supporting one another as we share stories and gain insights about family, self, and others. Before attending, take a moment to reflect and write a paragraph thanking your mother, father, or other nurturer for their strengths and beautiful memories they have passed on to you. Bring this with you as we come together to create a safe space for exploration and growth.

SATURDAY AFTERNOON 14:00 to 15:30
Dr. Jackie F. Steele Representation, Co-Authority, Trust: From Democratic Equality to DEI What do we still fundamentally need to learn about the concepts of representation, power-sharing, and democratic equality to enrich our practices of DEI? Designing intentional practices of co-authority, self-leadership, and emotionally intelligent people systems is both an art and a (political) science. In this participatory presentation, Jackie will share her expertise as a feminist political scientist whose research has engaged in a cross-pollination of public policy expertise in intersectional diversity with critical feminist and civic republican philosophies of decolonizing oppression for historically marginalized groups in contemporary G7 democracies. She will share about how these approaches to anti-oppression and systems change informs her leadership choices as as a feminist CEO and founder of enjoi Japan KK, and how it changes the foundational logic of how enjoi Japan supports corporate, university and public policy leaders in designing and implementing organizational change in support of intersectional diversity as the key to unlock sustainable innovation, community equity, and workplace happiness. |
Dr. Jackie F. Steele is a trilingual political scientist, author, and international speaker who has taught at leading universities in Canada and Japan, including six years as associate professor at the University of Tokyo. She has published over thirty academic works, is a long-time collaborator of the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo, and is an advisor to UN conferences focused on gender equality, diversity, and disaster/crisis risk governance. As founder and CEO of enjoi Japan K.K., Dr. Steele has guided corporate and university leaders on diversity and equity for innovation (DEI) as a holistic and evidence-based business strategy, and was recognized by APAC Entrepreneur as one of ten “Most Inspiring Japanese Entrepreneurs 2021”. Since April 2022, she is Senior DEI Business Partner for Amazon Japan. In her volunteer life, Jackie serves as President of FEW Japan supporting women’s empowerment, and is also a director of the Pride Business Alliance Japan. To support the next generation of intersectional diversity leaders, she is an angel investor with SheEO Canada, and is the Strategic Advisor of WomEnpowered International hosted at GRaSPP (UTokyo).
